What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes the body's natural healing process. It rests on the principles of quantum physics and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress; and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "universal" and Ki which is "life force energy". So, Reiki is translated to "universal life force energy".
Reiki works to find and address blockages in the energy body. It treats the whole person including the physical body, emotions, mind, and spirit -- creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace and well-being.
Who can benefit?
Everyone has the potential to benefit from Reiki (including animals). All that is required is an open mind and an intention and willingness to heal. Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of energy healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and always creates a beneficial effect. Reiki is not a replacement for traditional medical care, however, it complements medical treatments beautifully to relieve side effects and promote your body's healing process.
How do I prepare for an Energy Healing session? What can I expect?
- Ensure you are well hydrated - drink plenty of water leading up to your session.
- It is recommended to be in a quiet space where you can relax and not be interrupted.
- Be open to the healing benefits of Reiki without expectations.
It's easy to simply focus on the physical aspects, but we may not get relief until what is actually causing the problem is addressed (stress, suppression of emotions, etc.). A session may bring up emotions, memories, or thoughts unrelated to your healing goal, but often they are part of the root problem. If these are ignored we may think that our Reiki session didn't work because the physical issue was not resolved right away, when in fact the opportunity to heal was greater than ever expected.
What should I do after a healing session?
Depending on your session you may feel energized or tired afterward as the energy continues to detox. It's recommended to rest at home for at least an hour afterward. Drink 1-2 glasses of water soon after your session.
How can I help keep my energy balanced?
Grounding is important as it helps us connect to nature and deal with the stress of everyday life - you can do this by walking barefoot on the ground or by visualizing roots running from your feet going down into the earth.
Make sure to eat a balanced and healthy diet and limit caffeine and alcohol as they can drain the body's energy.
Meditate - even if for just a few minutes - each day, and practice mindfulness whenever you can - this helps both the mind and body to relax and keeps us grounded.
